For models:
- K-180: Aspen LE, Tamarack LE, Aberdeen LE, Alpine LE.
- K-250: Ashwood LE, W Classic LE, Cambridge LE, Cascade LE.
The burn tubes and the baffle plate must be removed prior to removing and replacing the bypass plate. The catalytic and catalytic flame guard can be removed for ease of access. Note that a new gasket will be required for the catalytic when reassembling the stove.
Step by Step Instructions
Remove the bypass plate by tapping the front edge with a hammer. Repeat at both ends until it is free of the bypass hinge.
Install the new bypass plate by flipping it upside down and placing it on top of the bypass hinge with the open hooks of the new plate facing the hinge. Use a hammer to "pop" the hook onto the hinge rod. Repeat at both ends. Once both hooks are on the hinge, let the new bypass plate flip to the right side up.
Close the hooks on the new bypass plate by lifting the plate and hinge to the top of the firebox. Once the plate (the hooks) is contacting the top, use the hammer to close the hooks with an upward strike on the bottom of the plate. Repeat at both ends.
Finish closing the hooks using pliers. The hook should close snugly around the bypass hinge and have little to no gap left around the hook. Repeat at both ends. Move the new bypass plate forward and back to make sure that the hooks are tight on the hinge.
Finally, reinstall the baffle plate and burn tubes. Reinstall the catalytic and flame guard if they were removed. A new catalytic gasket is available here:

The catalytic can be installed without a gasket temporarily, if necessary.
