You can use a creosote removing powder as long as you follow the instructions provided with the product. If the instructions prohibit the use in a catalytic stove, then you cannot use that product. Most products will recommend that you leave your bypass open allowing the product to travel directly up the chimney. You will also be instructed to build a smaller fire when using the product.
These products are not a substitute for regular inspection and brushing of your chimney.
Burning small hot fires using dry wood is the best way to maintain the cleanliness of your chimney between cleanings.
