Regarding standing seam roofs:

Any penetration made by this snow divider will be fixed through the metal roof, pinning the roof metal to the wood substrate below. Some standing seam roof systems are “floating”, and the roofing manufacturer may prohibit pinning the roof panel to the wood substrate. If such is the case, you may have difficulty securing a wood stove flashing or a heavy duty snow dividing system to the metal roof. Some floating metal roof systems will expand or contract moving as much as 2”. Under no circumstances can a chimney flashing be allowed to move closer to a combustible material. If you allow a chimney flashing or snow divider to “float” independent of the wood substrate, it could move the chimney too close to combustible material, violating the minimum clearance requirements of that chimney. This is why a wood stove flashing is generally fastened into the wood substrate below. Check to see if the flashing around your chimney or vent is already fastened to the wood substrate. If so, the roof is already pinned to the substrate and adding the divider will have no adverse effect.
